Union Pacific SD 40-2 3027 (former CNW 6846) from a Kato Model
This model was built from a Kato SD-40-2 that I stripped. The nose was replaced with a Cannon and Company 81" nose kit, and all fans were replaced with Cannon and Company's thinwall fans with photoetched castings. The unit was
detailed with such items as MU hoses, ditch lights, antenna, cab vent, eye bolts, and nose bell notch with no bell (I have a picture of this).
Also, I replaced the Kato grab irons with wire ones from Detail Associates and replaced the dynamic T vent with a Detail Associates part.
I also removed the origional Kato electrical pickup system and hardwired the unit to improve performance. The factory circuit board was replaced with an Athearn Genesis circuit board and operating ditchlights were fitted. Painting involved using Floquil UP Armor Yellow and Floquil Harbor Mist Grey. The decals are Microscale, and the overcoat is
half Testor's glosscoat and half Testor's Dullcoat thinned with lacquer thinner.
