This unit started out as factory painted Kato SD40-2 that I dismantled, stripped, redetailed and repainted. I replaced the stock nose with a Cannon and Company 81 inch nose, and the radiator fans were replaced with the photoetched radiator fans by Cannon and Company. Also added was aplow, mu hoses, cut bars, firecracker antenna, new horn, new grabs, ACI tag holders, eyebolts, speed recorder and so on.
The painting was done with custom mixed Scalecoat II for the yellow and red over gray primer than white. The underframes were painted with Scalecoat II NYC dark gray. The handrails and grab irons are painted with Modelflex Rock Island aluminum white.
The decals are microscale from several different sets, and the entire unit was semiglossed with half Testor's glosscoat and half Testor's dullcoat thinned with lacquer thinner.
